Southend Airport is one of London's lesser-known satellite airports, but it has a trump card — a direct rail connection to London Liverpool Street in about 55 minutes. For EV drivers, this creates an interesting option: drive to a hotel with EV charging near Southend, park, take the train into London, return, charge overnight, fly in the morning.
Where to Stay
Southend-on-Sea
Right on the seafront. The city has a range of hotels and decent EV charging infrastructure. The rail connection to the airport terminal is direct and fast.
Leigh-on-Sea and Westcliff
Just west of Southend, more upmarket, with some lovely independent hotels and good EV charging. Worth the slightly longer walk to the station.
Rochford and Hockley
The villages north of Southend near the airport itself. More limited hotel choice but practical for very early departures.
Charging labels on Sento
Stays on Sento are labelled charging on-site, charging nearby or standard — confirm charging with the property or a live charging map such as Zapmap before you travel. A Sento Charging Promise is coming soon.
