Stansted sits in the Essex countryside, off the M11, and it's one of the less EV-dense airport areas in the UK — which means a bit more planning is needed. The good news is that the M11 corridor has decent rapid charging, and some hotels in the area have genuinely invested in EV infrastructure.
Best Areas
Bishop's Stortford
The nearest town of any size, about 10 minutes from the airport. Has a reasonable selection of hotels, some with EV charging. Good if you want a meal out the night before your flight.
Great Dunmow and Braintree
Further east, but worth considering if you're travelling from Essex or East Anglia. Both have hotels with EV facilities and are an easy run to the airport.
Harlow
South on the M11, with better EV infrastructure than the immediate airport area. Works well if you're driving from London.
Charging labels on Sento
Stays on Sento are labelled charging on-site, charging nearby or standard — confirm charging with the property or a live charging map such as Zapmap before you travel. A Sento Charging Promise is coming soon.
