Charging the BMW 330e in the UK

Owning a BMW 330e in the UK? Here's where to charge, what speed to expect, and how to find hotels with EV charging on Sento.

The BMW 330e is one of the UK's most popular plug-in hybrids — and unlike a pure EV, it has a smaller battery (12kWh usable) that charges quickly, but needs regular topping up to make the most of its electric range.

    Understanding the 330e's Charging Needs

The 330e has a maximum AC charging speed of 3.7kW. That's slower than most pure EVs — you won't benefit from rapid or ultra-rapid chargers for the battery itself (though you can of course use fuel for longer journeys).

    At 3.7kW:

    • Full charge from flat: approximately 3–4 hours
    • Top-up: fast enough for a hotel overnight or a day at work

    Overnight Hotel Charging

This is the sweet spot for the 330e. Plug in when you arrive, unplug full in the morning. Any 3-pin or Type 2 socket works — the car regulates itself to 3.7kW max. Stays on Sento are labelled charging on-site, charging nearby or standard — confirm charging with the property or a live charging map such as Zapmap before you travel. A Sento Charging Promise is coming soon.

    Workplace Charging

If you have access to workplace charging, the 330e is ideal — a few hours plugged in during the working day keeps you in electric-only mode for most commutes.

    Public Charge Points

Any Type 2 AC charger works for the 330e. You won't be charging at 7kW or 22kW — the car maxes at 3.7kW — but public chargers are fine for a top-up during a shopping trip.

Getting the Most from the 330e

The 330e has around 25–35 miles of electric-only range, which covers most UK commutes. The trick is keeping the battery topped up so you're driving electric as much as possible. A hotel with EV charging isn't a nice-to-have for 330e owners — it's genuinely worth seeking out.
