The VW ID.4 is one of Europe's most popular electric SUVs, and in the UK it's become a firm favourite for families and long-distance drivers. Here's how to charge it well.
ID.4 Charging Specs
- AC (home/hotel): up to 11kW (3-phase) or 7.2kW (single-phase)
- DC rapid charging: up to 135kW on the ID.4 Pro
- Range: around 280–320 miles (real-world UK, standard conditions)
The ID.4's 11kW AC capability is useful in the growing number of hotels with 3-phase charging — you'll charge significantly faster than cars limited to 7kW.
Best Networks for the ID.4
Gridserve
The ID.4's 135kW DC max charging speed is well-matched to Gridserve's 60–150kW chargers. These are among the most reliable rapid chargers in the UK.
Osprey
A growing network with generally high reliability. Good coverage in areas Gridserve doesn't serve.
BP Pulse
Widespread but inconsistent quality. Some BP Pulse rapid chargers are excellent; others are frustratingly slow. Always have a backup plan.

Overnight Charging
At 7.2kW AC, a full charge for the ID.4 takes around 8–9 hours. That's a perfect overnight hotel charge. With 11kW access, you're down to around 6 hours — fully charged well before checkout.
Stays on Sento are labelled charging on-site, charging nearby or standard — confirm charging with the property or a live charging map such as Zapmap before you travel. A Sento Charging Promise is coming soon.
