Charging the Hyundai IONIQ 5 in the UK

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is one of the fastest-charging EVs in the UK. Here's how to make the most of it on the road.

The IONIQ 5 has one of the most impressive charging specs of any EV available in the UK — thanks to its 800V architecture, it can charge faster than almost anything else on the road.

    IONIQ 5 Charging Specs

    • DC ultra-rapid: up to 220kW (with compatible charger)
    • DC rapid: 50–150kW (at compatible chargers)
    • AC: up to 11kW (3-phase)
    • Range: around 280–310 miles (real-world UK)

Getting the Most from the IONIQ 5

The 800V architecture means the IONIQ 5 can add around 100 miles of range in 18 minutes at a compatible ultra-rapid charger. In practice, most UK rapid chargers are 50–150kW, but you'll still charge significantly faster than most EVs.

    Best Networks

    • Gridserve — many sites now have 150kW+ chargers compatible with the IONIQ 5
    • BP Pulse Ultra — 150kW chargers at select locations
    • MFG (Motor Fuel Group) — rollout of high-power chargers at petrol station forecourts

    Overnight Hotel Charging

At 11kW AC, the IONIQ 5 can go from 20% to 100% in around 6 hours. A hotel stay overnight is plenty. Stays on Sento are labelled charging on-site, charging nearby or standard — confirm charging with the property or a live charging map such as Zapmap before you travel. A Sento Charging Promise is coming soon.
